To anyone without the knowledge of the Gas Safe Register you should definitely give this a read!
There are a number of engineers that will be more than happy to come into your home to do gas works without being registered as a gas safe engineer – while this might be a local handyman, or your brother, it shouldn’t matter. Having a gas safe registered engineer is the only way to have a 100% guarantee that your gas appliances are safe.
How do I tell if my gas engineer is registered?
Don’t worry about it! All Gas Safe registered engineers are required to keep a gas safe register ID card to prove that they are fully qualified for the works you have hired them for. We would recommend that you ask to see this before they carry out any gas work in your home or business.
If you aren’t 100% certain about your engineer it is easy enough to check, just ask to see their I.D and on the front check;
- The photo
- The start date and expiry date
- The licence number
- The security hologram
- The engineer is from the business you employed
Check the back of the card to make sure:
- The engineer is qualified for the job you need done
- They have up-to-date qualifications
Why is it important?
Now, at this point, you might be asking yourself – so I have all of this information, why does it matter? Well, it’s all about your safety!
By having someone without the right skills and qualifications working on a gas line in your home or business, you could expose yourself to the risks of gas leaks, fire, carbon monoxide poisoning. We believe it is in your best interest to know all of this information before you hire any engineer to come into your home or business to ensure that you are protected. Here at David McKail Plumbing and Heating, we make sure that all of our engineers are gas safe registered to ensure the safety of all of our clients.
